What's in Your Water?

Press Release
December 1, 2007

The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) has studied the effects and proven the dangers of dermal (through the skin) absorption and the inhalation of chemicals when we take a shower or bath. The list of possible water contaminants is endless; however the EPA has focused many studies on common substances – DBP's (Disinfectant By Products) from water treatment chemicals such as chlorine.

The quantities of disinfectants used in municipal water systems are based on amounts that studies have deemed safe for ingestion. Currently, these measurements do not take in to consideration inhalation and dermal (skin) absorption. This is concerning for everybody, especially pregnant women and young children.

Physician-run organization, The Children's Environmental Health Network issued a statement concerning the dangers associated with tap water and our children. Through surveys they discovered that children enjoy lengthy bath-times, overly exposing their immature and developing bodies to DBP’s through skin absorption. They quote an EPA scientist who describes showers as an ‘exposure chamber’ for children, where exposure to volatile contaminants via the lung would be at least double the amount from drinking the water.

Further EPA studies have found a multitude of pesticides in our public water supply. A CDC study published in October proved that perchlorate, a rocket fuel additive that has been detected in the water of at least 40 US States including Arizona, threatens women’s thyroid levels. The study demonstrated that very small amounts of perchlorate affect the thyroid, which is in turn dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn children. The March of Dimes has been warning pregnant women for years about drinking and bathing in tap water because of chlorine and pesticides.

Knowing all of this, what steps can we take to protect our families here in Arizona? For 25 years, Energy One Water Systems of Scottsdale has been helping families to purify every drop of water before it enters their home. You won’t find their systems anywhere else; they are commissioned just for Energy One and the needs of Arizonans.

Other water treatment companies in the Valley provide softening systems that use salt to remove calcium, and reverse osmosis systems to provide you with pure drinking water at one faucet only. Energy One is different, their sodium-free whole house system uses 6 stages of filtration to remove calcium, heavy metals, arsenic, bacteria, pesticides and chemicals such as chlorine. It is the only whole house system that not only softens but filters, purifies and balances pH.

Using the Energy One whole house water treatment system ensures that we are bathing and drinking the cleanest water we can. Not only will our bodies and our health benefit, but so will our plumbing and appliances because they will not suffer with any build-up.

Many holistic doctors recommend our whole house system to their patients. The skin problems they are seeing from patients bathing in tap water are at an all time high due to the extreme hardness and the chlorine content. After installing the system, allergy sufferers also feel better because they are no longer breathing chlorine vapors in the shower. Even dogs and cats benefit from the whole house system. Thyroid problems for cats and dogs are the highest nationally in Arizona due to the chlorine.

Expert installers can adapt any home to install this system. It is probably the best "home improvement" you can do for your home. Call for a free estimate. You will be surprised how reasonable it is, costing less than most companies charge for a simple softener. You will have no filters to change as the unit is self cleaning. We look forward to being of service, by supplying healthy water to your home.
